Library Reserves - Electronic & Traditional
Placing your course readings on reserve has never been easier. Just send us your readings list, and we'll do the rest. Books will be placed on traditional reserve, i.e., students can come by the ground floor circulation desk and check them out for use in the building only. Sample tests, copies of overheads, and other materials you've created will be scanned and made available through the Libraries' Catalog as pdf files. Each article found in our databases will be represented by a link into the database which instantly retrieves that particular article. Articles not found in our databases will be scanned and made available as pdf files. All of the readings will be listed in the Reserves component of the Libraries' Catalog, and the digital materials will be available to your students from any location.

Please note: You must notify us every semester about what readings you would like placed on reserve for your course. We do not automatically bring forward previous semesters' lists.

Are You Violating Copyright?
Did you know that scanning an article and placing it on a publicly accessible website is almost always a violation of copyright? This may be true even if you are one of the authors of the article. If you post articles on a course website that you have created, you could be violating copyright. Here are a few ways to avoid that situation:

  • Instead of posting the actual article, provide a link into a library database where the article is found. We can help you construct a URL that a) goes directly to the article and b) works from any location.
  • Use the library's reserves service.
  • Place your readings list inside WebCT.

Readings Lists in WebCT
You can easily post a readings list in WebCT; you can also provide scanned images of articles and links into library databases. If you would rather use WebCT than the library's reserves service, we can still support you by providing appropriate links into library databases and scanned images of articles. When you send us your readings list, be sure to specify that it is for use with WebCT. To a limited extent, we can also help you actually load the materials into your course's WebCT space.

Please send us any questions you have about how the library can support your course offerings.
