First check the UA Library catalog:

• http://library.ua.edu/
• Search by title, author, subject or keyword.

If UA does not own the book:

• Universal Borrowing
  • Borrow from other Alabama academic libraries. Books are delivered and may be picked up at UA Libraries.
  • For details see: http://www.lib.ua.edu/univborr.htm
• Request the book from Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
  • The UA library will attempt to locate and borrow materials not owned by our libraries.
  • Two ways to access ILL
    1. There is an ILL link at the bottom of the UA catalog: http://library.ua.edu/
    2. From the Bruno homepage, click Interlibrary Loan in the "Services" column: http://brunolib.cba.ua.edu/
       Note that first time users register to get a username and password.
• Hint: Use WorldCat to see how many other libraries own the book:
  • Choose "WorldCat" in the library database list
    • http://brunolib.cba.ua.edu/search/databases/dball.html
    • WorldCat is a combined library catalog of libraries throughout the world. If not many libraries carry the book, it may be difficult to obtain.

• Search by "Journal Title"
• The catalog will record will indicate whether UA currently subscribes to the journal in print and electronically. It also may have a direct link to electronic access of the journal.

Electronic access to journal articles

• As mentioned above, the library catalog record may provide a link for electronic access to the journal.
• Use the E-journals link on the Bruno homepage to determine if full text electronic access is available.

• Articles not available in print or electronically may be requested from ILL. If not many libraries subscribe to the journal, it may be difficult to obtain.

The UA libraries subscribe to over 200 electronic databases. Many may be accessed remotely through the Bruno Library homepage.

  • Contains all the databases subscribed to by UA libraries.
  • Includes all the Angelo Bruno Business Library databases

• Business Source Premier

In addition:

• JSTOR contains many core scholarly business titles.
• SSRN - C&BA subscribes. Not on library databases page. http://www.ssrn.com
• EconLit (for scholarly economics literature)
• ProQuest Dissertations & Theses

Web of Science - Electronic versions of Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index.

• Can be used to determine how many times an article has been cited.
• UA owns the backfile from 1985.
• Print versions are in the Gorgas Library.

Business Source Premier - can also do citation searches. Not as extensive as Web of Science.

Google Scholar - http://www.lib.ua.edu/googlescholar/

Journal Citation Reports - provides analytic data on scholarly journals, including the "impact factor", a measure of the journal's prestige.

Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities in Economics and Finance (Ref HG 152 .C22). 3 vols. Provides information on publication submission requirements for hundreds of economic & finance journal. Many listings also include journal acceptance rates.
